A meditation on artmaking and the role of luck in the lives of those who pursue it, Double Yolk Good Luck is a short film written, directed, and edited by Courtlin Byrd.

It combines two filmmaking styles – narrative film and found footage video essay.

Filmed guerilla-style in New York City on shoestring budget, the film feels like a revival of the No Wave filmmaking of the 1970s and 80s.

Courtlin Byrd (writer/director): Courtlin Byrd is a filmmaker and video artist. Her work has been shown at New Filmmakers New York, Hallucinea Film Festival, Buffalo International Film Festival, as well as at Public Works Administration and Mery Gates Gallery in New York City. Originally from East Tennessee, she currently works as an Associate Media Producer at The Frick Collection and resides in Ridgewood, Queens.

Lauren Knapp (Maya): I work with the healing capacities as a psychoanalyst guided by Jungian and trauma frameworks and intuitive healing. I love anything to do with the human experience of gnosis. I believe all arts are gnostic and being with the arts gives us an opportunity to learn more about the mysteries of life as well as our deep inner knowing. So I thought I’d give this a try. Glad to be with you on this journey.

Nicole Lee (producer): Nicole is based in Brooklyn, NY, and this is her first credit in a creative producer role.  Outside of this project, Nicole is a clinical social worker, and an alum of NYU. In her free time, you can find Nicole eating the best food and drinking the best drinks NYC has to offer, bike riding on Governors Island, or taking her dog, Lumi for a walk in Prospect Park. Nicole grew up in community theater and is thrilled to be working with this crew to make art!

Brent Cox (Paul/camera operator): Brent Cox is a New York City based poet, filmmaker, and artist. He recently completed a PhD in Poetics at University of Buffalo. He is the founder of The Topological Poetics Research Institute (TPRI), an experimental poetics publishing platform, and co-founder of ecopoetics workshop, a nomadic poetics residency. He has shown his films at the University of Cambridge, the University of Louisville, Notre Dame, The Buffalo International Film Festival, and more.

Annie Salter (Leslie): Originally from the land of affordable healthcare, Annie moved from Australia to NY in 2016 for theatre and photography. She’s performed on community stages from UCB to Dixon Place. This is Annie’s first credited role in a short film. You can probably find Annie by a beach pulling tarot with friends or talking to her roommate’s cat.

Emily Ambrosio (Knox): Emily couldn’t resist diving into the no-nonsense, yet slightly unhinged Knox in this short film. Based in Brooklyn, by day she is an Executive Producer at an ad agency, wrangling creative chaos with a smile. Off set, she’s a curious student of astrology, a devoted yogi, and loves getting lost in deep conversations with her closest confidants. She’s thrilled to trade her behind-the-camera duties for a spot in front of it, for the very first time. Special thanks to her niece, Anna, whose fearless spirit inspired this performance.

Lexi Hill (Emily): Currently based in New York, NY, Lexi completed the improv program at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, and enjoyed writing and performing sketch comedy as a member of CBS Follies while attending Columbia Business School. While not acting, Lexi works in digital product management for Amex, and in her free time enjoys dinners with friends, learning new things for no reason, and long walks in the park with her miniature poodle, Frankie.

Lily Dionne-Clough (Moderator): Lily Dionne-Clough's headshot is not meant to be catfishing, but it dates from 2019 when she was taking acting and film classes at the Stella Adler Studio. She's always loved acting and scene study, and was thrilled to get back at it in such great company on the set of Double Yolk! She works in marketing and e-commerce for two cookie brands (not the digital variety), and works just as diligently finding her perfect golf drive, hitting line drives up the middle in co-ed softball, serving up the perfect risotto, and keeping up with book club reads.
